about

PERUCHO’S: THE NAME IS A GUARANTEE

In the early 70’s Jordi Graells, Oriol Perucho, Oriol Pons de Vall and Albert Subirats created the band Perucho’s. From that moment on and until they separated in 1978 they formed a rapid and scrupleless intervention unit directed at the public of Barcelona which allowed them to be considered “the most terrifying band in the city”. During those years they developed a very personal way of conceiving and making music, combining and mixing diverse elements of rock, jazz and vanguard music without prioritizing any of them. Something which they called: “free”. A whole philosophy surrounded their live shows, they would never repeat the same performance nor follow the same approach, making each night unique. This became one of their most characteristic traits. They were musical anarchists and their music reflected the anarchic agitation that shook Barcelona during those years.

Practically no sonic evidence of those times remains. In 1975 they recorded an LP on Zeleste label which due to reasons that still remain unclear has never seen the light. A few years later the show they performed with Pau Riba in the Canet of 1977 was recovered and released on CD, a show that sadly isn’t the best example of their talent. Perhaps because of that in late 1979 after they had been separated for over a year they decided to record an LP that although still didn’t reflect the force of their awe-inspiring shows would nonetheless be a recap of their work and a final goodbye.

This album, which we are proud to present to you now, is comprised of pieces recorded when the band were still together and others recorded especially for the album.
Although it was released years ago as it was an independent production (one of the first in Spain) and it didn’t achieve the recognition that it deserved. It is a very valuable document that sheds a little light on the talent of a unique and radical band that was never submitted to any type of musical conventions or movements whatsoever.
If there’s a band that deserves to be considered among the “pioneers” of experimental music-at least that which is made in Barcelona-then this is without a doubt the band.
